Over the course of the last two years, our small but mighty team has been working hard to advocate for safe cycling for everyone in communities across Prince Edward Island. We believe that everyone should feel safe and empowered to choose cycling as a primary mode of transportation.
Today, we are excited to share our plans for the future! In partnership with the Prince Edward Island Active Transportation Fund, we are launching the Bike Friendly Outreach and Advocacy Campaign. Over the next two years, this initiative will work to address barriers and identify opportunities to get more people cycling in the capital region of Charlottetown, Stratford, and Cornwall.
Phase 1 • Understanding barriers and incentives to cycling Through a series of short online surveys, public meetings, pop-ups, and guided rides, we’ll learn about the specific needs, challenges, and possibilities for building a bike-friendly capital region.
Phase 2 • Developing cycling knowledge and skills in the community Using the feedback gathered in phase one, we’ll create an educational social media and video campaign that will directly address barriers to cycling and provide solutions to concerns and issues raised by community members.
Phase 3 • Advocating for change Using the data gathered in phase one, we will provide policy recommendations and an AT network plan to the province. The plan and policies will be specific, phased, and directly linked to the needs of the community, filling the current gap of a cohesive, long-term vision for the whole capital region.
As we begin working on this initiative, we need your help! The first part of the process for us is listening. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist, or you haven’t ridden a bike since you were a kid, your experiences are valuable and your story matters to us. We want to know: why do you choose to cycle to get where you need to go—or why don’t you? What would make that choice easier for you? What would make it a real possibility?
You can tell us right now by clicking the link below to complete our short online survey … and help us get the word out by sending it to your friends and family!
This is the first in a series of focused surveys that are designed to be quick and easy to answer, and will feature aspects of cycling such as e-bikes, winter riding, and where infrastructure is most needed.
Stay tuned to our social media channels to hear about future surveys and opportunities for you to get involved, volunteer for events, and share your story with us.
This project is made possible with funding provided by the Prince Edward Island Active Transportation Fund.
